Youth Services

Wright Library’s Youth Services Department serves children from birth through grade 12. Youth Services staff members are available during all library hours to assist children, teens, and adults with their library needs.

Programs

The Youth Services Department presents programs for specific age levels, as well as for family entertainment. Programs are educational, fun, and are presented by librarians who are trained in child development and education. The Events Calendar has a listing of current programs. For more information, stop by the Youth Services Department and pick up a brochure, or call (937)294-7171.

Computers

The Youth Services Department has two computers that provide access to the Library catalog and the Internet. One of the computers uses a filter. These computers are reserved for patrons sixteen years old and younger who may sign up at the Youth Services Reference Desk. Patrons are allowed to stay on the computer as long as there is no one waiting. During the after- school hours between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., each person will get one 30-minute time-slot.

Reader's Advisory

The staff is happy to help you and your child or teen select books of interest and of an appropriate reading level. Book lists by grade level are available in the Library and on this Web page. Other reading lists categorized by subject can be picked up in the Children's Room and the Teen Scene area at the Library. Blogs are available online for staff recommendations of children's and teen's books.

Help Your Child Get Ready to Read

Learning starts at birth. Research shows that children learn the skills they need to read years before they start school. To ensure every child is given the best possible chance to succeed, the Youth Services Department at Wright Library has adopted the Every Child Ready To Read ® program developed by the Public Library Association and the Association for Library Service to Children, divisions of the American Library Association. Mrs. Rose and Mrs. "G" have been specially trained and are making sure every child in Oakwood is ready to read. Click here for more information.

Note: Youth Services Department brochures and booklists are created in the .pdf format. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to view or print the brochure. Click here to get Adobe Acrobat Reader.
