Far Hills Speaker Series -
Milton Wright: Minister, Educator, Editor, and Controversial Bishop
Milton Wright is mostly remembered as the father of Wilbur and Orville, the inventors of the first successful airplane. However, he was also a mostly self-taught elementary school teacher, and minister ordained in the United Brethren in Christ (UBC). He quickly advanced in the church’s hierarchy, eventually becoming Bishop. During our presentation, we will learn about Bishop Wright’s controversial role to preserve his conservative beliefs, as well as interesting tales of his home and family life.
This program is presented by Bob Bowman, a lifetime member and the past president of the Franklin Area Historical Society. Join us as we explore this fascinating individual, and father to Dayton’s most celebrated brothers.
The Far Hills Speaker Series, a collaboration of the Library and the Oakwood Historical Society, is free and open to the public.
