Our Library is Going to the Dogs! With Paws to Read.

Child reads to DogThe furriest four legged friends are coming to our library to hear a story or two. Wright Memorial Public Library is pleased to present a new biweekly program beginning January 17 called Paws to Read. Young readers of all abilities and confidence levels are welcome to come read with therapy dogs in the cozy library atmosphere. Studies have shown that kids who have anxiety around reading aloud in the classroom improve when they read to a dog. Dogs provide a non-judgmental reading partner. Kids can practice and improve their skills while the performance pressure is removed. Additionally, interacting with the dogs builds excitement and eagerness about reading and for some kids allows them to associate positive, fun feelings with reading.
