2008 Book Sale
Wright Library is extending its annual book sale to six days this year. The sale will take place in the library meeting room. There will
be a special preview night, Tuesday, May 20, from 4 to 8p.m. Preview night prices will be $2 each for hardback books
and $1 each for children's books and all other items.
Regular sale hours:
- Wednesday, May 21, 10a.m. - 8p.m.
- Thursday, May 22, 10a.m. - 8p.m.
- Friday, May 23, 10a.m. - 6p.m.
- Saturday, May 24, 1p.m. - 5p.m.
- Sunday, May 25, 1p.m. - 5p.m.
During the regular sale hardback books will be $1 each. Paperbacks, children's books, videos, CD's, and all other items will be 50¢ each. Sunday will be Bargain Day;
fill a grocery bag for $2 each.
Volunteers are needed before, during and after the sale and if you would like to volunteer, click here to download the volunteer form, fill it out and bring it to the library.
There are thousands of books on all kinds of subjects for both adults and children. Proceeds benefit the library.
Now Accepting Entries for the Oakwood Centennial Short Story Contest
Are you the writer who can best capture the spirit of Oakwood in a short story? Wright Library and The
Oakwood Register are sponsoring a short story writing contest in recognition of Oakwood's Centennial.
Stories must be set in Oakwood, but may take place at any time from the founding of Oakwood to the present.
Two $100 prizes will be awarded: first place in the teen division (ages 12 to 17) and first place in the adult
division (ages 18 and up). Both winning stories will be published in The Oakwood Register during the Centennial celebration.
Contest Guidelines:
- Students aged 12 to 17 may enter the teen division.
- Writers aged 18 and over may enter the adult division.
- Stories must be set in Oakwood
- Fiction only, no memoirs or essays.
- Stories must not exceed 1,300 words.
- Entries must be typed and include the author's name, address, phone number, and email address on a title page.
- Please specify "teen" or "adult" on the title page. If entering in the teen division, also include your age.
- Writers are limited to entering one story.
- Manuscripts will not be returned.
- Entries must be received by 5 p.m., Monday, May 19, 2008.

The 2008 Big Read is Happening Now
You can be part of the Big Read, the annual community-wide reading project that gets everyone talking about the same book. This year's book is Funny in Farsi, by Firoozeh Dumas.
The author describes her family's adventures as they move from Iran to California in the 1970s and their adjustments to life in the United States. Reserve a copy today and participate in a discussion group.
Three Big Read discussions are being sponsored by Wright Memorial Public Library.
- Tuesday, April 8, noon, at Starbucks, 2418 Far Hills Ave., Oakwood
- Sunday, April 13, a book discussion just for teens, 2 p.m., Library meeting room
- Sunday, April 27, 3 p.m., Library meeting room

Wireless Internet Access
Wright Library now provides free wireless Internet access. Patrons can bring laptops to the library and take advantage of the WiFi network to access the Internet on the main floor, in the Teen Scene area, and in the meeting room.
