Join the Cincinnati Observatory and the Wright Library for family-friendly Zoom programs on Saturday, April 10.  You can to take a tour of the universe (10:30am), ponder extraterrestrial life (2pm), and learn more about comets and meteors (4pm).  Individual program descriptions below.

Take-and-make bags that extend the programs’ learning available during regular library hours beginning 4/2, while supplies last.

 

Building the Transcontinental Railroad: Durham Museum

Come learn the true story of a Wild West legend: the Transcontinental Railroad!  Artifacts, photos, and little known facts bring the Transcontinental Railroad to life at this program from the Durham Museum in Omaha, Nebraska. The 6-year epic-scale project produced successes and blunders, characters and con artists in plentiful measure.  This is a can’t-miss program for students grades 3-8.  Attendance is capped at 30 children.  Wright Library will close registration if the limit is met.

Ever wonder what it is like to work and live in space? Join Space Center Houston’s interactive presentation on life aboard the International Space Station. Discover how astronauts carry out daily tasks including eating, exercising and conducting science experiments in orbit. Learn about the weightless environment and the effects it has on the human body. This program is most appropriate for children in grades Kindergarten-6th grade, but children of all ages are welcome to attend.

It’s a puppet show set in Ancient Greece: Aesop’s Fantastical Fables!  Aesop himself and his sidekick Cecil the Lion will use puppets and audience participation to tell three classic tales: The Lion and the Mouse, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, and The Tortoise and the Hare!  Presented by the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. Is there a mole in your operation? While accusations fly, only forensic evidence provides the necessary counterintelligence clues to put this case to bed. Teens become forensic scientists and use real FBI forensic techniques to examine evidence, make recommendations, and use the scientific method to determine the identity of the mole among them. Join educators from the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC for this program. Please pick up a program kit at Wright Library between February 9 and February 17. For grades 5-12.
