Exploring Learning Opportunities in Reading Picture Books Aloud to Young Children
Presented by Patricia M. Hart, Ph.D.

“Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.”
- Emilie Buchwald

Parents, family members, and caregivers will learn how to further encourage engagement between their child and quality books, setting the foundation for a lifetime love of reading.

Based on Dr. Hart’s experience maximizing the power of the library system as a parent and an educator, the presentation will include video clips from over 4 years of recording families reading to their young children, and will explore the importance of building vocabulary skills in young children to enhance school readiness.

A bibliography of quality children’s literature will be shared along with some of those books being modeled within the presentation.

Dr. Patricia Hart is a Professor Emerita from the University of Dayton with 45 years of experience in Education.  She has taught children's literature courses for many years, and has an early childhood Montessori Certification.  Her passion throughout her personal and professional life has been books and children.
